Elsie Winters married pastor Archie Mitchell and they acted as missionaries in Vietnam for two years; afterwards, they homeschooled children in Oregon. One 1945 May day, the couple took five children on a picnic to Gearhart Mountain for some enjoyment. Instead, an explosion occurred which killed Elsie and the kids. The blast was caused by a weaponized meteorological balloon dispersed by Japan. Armed with several bombs each, they were inteneded to cause fires and wreak havoc on the mainland.
Reports of the tragedy were silenced during the war, as the military did not want Japan to think it had a viable weapon. In reality, only a small portion of the 10,000 balloons ever reached the mainland. The demise of Elsie and her children were the only succesful instance of a foreign attack on American soil during the war, and they were mourned with a full press release after peace was declared.
Effects[]
Causes explosions when opened, similar in detonation style to multiple bombs going off in unison. Most victims will suffer fatal injuries if not treated immediately. However, it will only ever activate in forests and similarly wooded areas.
