At twenty two he won his first race, going on the place first in six others. Like many other competitive sports allegations of illegal drug use to reach peak performance was thrown around. Armstrong held steadfast against all allegation of doping against him, the accusations followed him even after he retired from the pro-circuit. All throughout Armstrong proclaimed himself drug free, even taking unannounced tests to show that he was clean. Throughout a lengthy investigation it was discovered that not only was Armstrong taking drugs and using false blood and urine samples but he was the center of a drug ring offering drugs to other cyclists as well.
