Origin[]

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a 1974 American horror film. The film follows a group of friends who fall victim to a family of cannibals while on their way to visit their childhood home. It was originally sold as a true story however later it was released that it was completely fictional. However the main antagonist of Leatherface was inspired by the crimes of real life serial killer Ed Gein.

During filming there were several instances where Gunnar Hansen, who portrayed Leatherface, would continue to try to attack his co-stars even after the director Tobe Hooper had called cut. Once the chainsaw was set down he seemed to come to his senses according to on set rumors among the cast and crew.

Collection[]

Twelve years after the release of the original movie the studio wanted to create a sequel using the original props. Due to his failing health Hansen was unable to be recast as Leatherface and the role went to Bill Johnson instead. A request of Hansen was to keep the chain saw prop from the first movie so that it could be displayed in his home. Agents went in and replaced the artifact with the one used in the second movie, identical in design to the letter as it was actually another one of the few made for the first film.
