OriginsEdit

The Jungle was published in 1906 by Upton Sinclair. He intentionally portrayed the lives of immigrants in the United States and the malpractice of the American meatpacking industry of the time. The book and storyline was disliked by many, but the description of the meat industry shocked the public, resulting in changes for meat inspection and food safety.

EffectsEdit

When the first chapter is read, the person wants to go up against corporations and their corruption. Unfortunately, the reader gets evicted from their place of residence, like the main character Jurgis Rudkus and his family.
