Origin[]

Sigmund Freud was an Austrian neurologist, now known as the father of psychoanalysis.

'Id', 'ego', and 'super-ego' are the three parts of the psychic apparatus defined in Sigmund Freud's structural model of the psyche; they are the three theoretical constructs in terms of whose activity and interaction our mental life is described. According to this model of the psyche, the 'id' is the set of uncoordinated instinctual trends; the 'super-ego' plays the critical and moralizing role; and then 'ego' is the organized, realistic part that mediates between the desires of the 'id' and the 'super-ego'. The 'super-ego' can stop one from doing certain things that one's 'id' may want to do.

Effects[]

This lighter exposes and centralizes the users 'id', 'ego' or 'super-ego' depending on how long the lighter is lit. From the start of the light to 5 seconds, the flame will be a bright yellow. Stopping here releases the 'Id', which causes the user to act on all base impulses with no interference from morals or higher thinking. Between 5 and 10 seconds, the flame turns red and will unleash the 'Ego'. The most rational of the three, but the most dull. The user will not act without a proper reason. After ten seconds, the flame turns blue and awakens the 'Super-Ego'. Striving for self-perfection, the 'super-ego' will only act in it's own interest to better itself. It will do anything to make itself look better from a societal point of view

Trivia[]

This artifact, combined with Edna St. Vincent Millay's Candle, was used in the first story in the "Double Danger" story arc, "Scary Meal Time!". With this lighter and candle wax, the whammied Garrett split himself into 2 people, Garrett (good) and Scott (evil).
