Dome A or Dome Argus is the loftiest ice dome on the Antarctic Plateau, located twelve hundred kilometers (seven hundred and fifty miles) inland. It is thought to be the coldest naturally occurring place on Earth, with temperatures of near -90 degrees C (-130 degrees F) occurring in some winters. It is the highest ice feature in Antarctica, consisting of an ice dome of 4,093 meters (13,428 ft.) elevation above sea level. It is said that removing ice from this area and taking it to a hot location the ice still wouldn't start melting for at least an hour.
