Biography[]

Mehmed Talaat (1874 - 1921 Inc.) was one of the triumvirate known as the Talaat Pasha that de facto ruled the Ottoman Empire during the first World War. He was one of the leaders of Young Turks. Starting his career in politics he was deputy for Edirne in 1908, then moved up to minister of the interior, minister of finance and finally grand vizier (prime minister) in 1917. Once he maintained control of the empire he ordered the arrest and deportation of Armenian intellectuals in Constantinople, most of them ultimately murdered. These events initiated the Armenian Genocide where he was the main perpetrator of the genocide.

Several political enemies from the Armenian Revolutionary Federation continued to be a thorn in Talaat's side until he discovered several artifacts which helped him locate and kill leaders of the Federation. Agents were able to capture him in Berlin in 1921 then gave credit to his assassination to a friend of several regents Soghomon Tehlirian a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation.
