Origin[]
The Brinks Hotel in Saigon was bombed by the Viet Cong on the evening of December 24, 1964 during the Vietnam War. Two Viet Cong operatives detonated a car bomb underneath the hotel, which housed United States Army officers. The explosion killed two Americans and injured sixty including military personnel and Vietnamese civilians. The goal of the Viet Cong was to wait until happy hour in the hotel's bar then detonate the car bombs that were located in the underground garage under the hotel to ensure a lot of people were inside the hotel's bar. This attack brought America into the war as they were positive that the Viet Cong were only threats in rural areas and that the war hadn't moved into major cities like Saigon.
