Origins[]
William Dampier was an explorer, who was the first Englishman to visit Australia and circumnavigate the globe three times. He has been called a great explorer who resides in the higher echelons of exploration, with Sir Walter Raleigh and James Cook. After his trip to the new world, he came back broke but with his prized journals. When published, the British asked him to go and explore Australia for them. He made many stops to pick up specimens, until his ship took on water. The carpenter was terrible at his job, marooning them on Ascension Island for over a month before finally being brought back to civilization by a passing ship.
He was court-martialled for supposed cruelty and was jailed in Brazil. Dampier somehow was out of jail by the War of Spanish Succession, again going to the Americas for a second and third time. He likely stranded sailor Alexander Selkrik on an uninhabited island, who inspired Daniel Defoe’s novel Robinson Crusoe; Dampier may have also been part of the effort that found and rescued Selkrik. His life’s legacy has inspired many scientists, explorers and writers.
Effects[]
Looking through the eyeglass gives the user a new perspective and outlook on things. It also increases the brains processing units, making them think and wonder more. However it will eventually turn them into a sociopath, a remnant from when Dampier was jailed.
