Origins[]
William Sydney Porter, better known by his pen name O. Henry, was a writer whose short stories were known for their use of irony and twist endings.
The artifact comes from his story The Gift of the Magi. It involved a couple, Jim and Della, with little money but desperately wanting to buy something their partner would cherish. So, they sold their most prized possessions to pay for the gifts. The objects, a comb for the Della’s gone hair, and a fob chain for the Jim’s sold watch, become purposeless. However, it showed how truly they loved each other and how far they were willing to go.
Effects[]
The two people who are in possession of these artifacts will be pulled toward each other, romantic feelings growing between the two. These feelings will not subside and, if anything, keep growing, until the artifacts are exchanged for each other by the two affected. Only then will the artifacts allow themselves to be neutralized, and only then does rational thought return to the affected - though nothing is to be said if the affected keep the attraction even after neutralization.
